The larger the bird, the more space it needs. Measure the bird’s wingspan and ensure the cage is wide enough to allow them to fully stretch their wings without touching the sides.
Birds are active and need space to move freely. Small birds need space to fly between perches, medium birds require room for wing flapping and climbing, and large birds need extra space for movement and exercise.
Bar spacing is just as important as cage size. For smaller birds, the spacing should be around ½ inch to prevent escapes or injury. Larger birds can handle ¾ inch to 1 inch bar spacing.
It's important to choose a cage that not only provides enough space for your bird to move around freely but also accommodates essential accessories like perches, toys, and feeding stations.
If you plan to house more than one bird, the cage needs to be large enough to allow each bird its own territory, minimizing territorial behavior and stress.
